Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday triggered a massive political controvery as he called the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, a “terrorist”.

Addressing a press conference in Chennai, Kharge said, “How these AIADMK people, who themselves put the photo of Annadurai, how can they join Modi? He is a terrorist.”

He further added, “His party won’t believe in equality and justice. These people are joining with them; it means they are weakening democracy.”

When the Congress chief was asked to put his statement in context, he clarified, “He (PM Modi) is terrorising people and political parties. I never said he is a terrorist.”

“What I mean, I want to clarify, is that Modi always threatens. The institutions like ED, I-T and CBI are in his hands. He wants to take delimitation also into his hands. Therefore I said , in that context, he is terrorising people and political parties. I never said he is a terrorist,” Kharge added.

BJP hits back, demands Rahul’s apology

Taking strong exception to the Congress leader’s shocking remarks on PM Modi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal slammed the Congress and DMK alliance for insulting the democratically elected PM of India.

“The entire nation feels ashamed today as the Congress and DMK stoop to insulting the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who was democratically elected by the people of India,” Goyal said.

He termed Kharge’s “terrorist” remarks on Modi a “disgraceful attack” on the dignity of the PM’s office and the mandate of 14o crore Indian.

“Mallikarjun Kharge calling him a “terrorist” is a disgraceful attack not just on an individual, but on the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office and the mandate of 140 crore Indians,” he added.

The Union Minister further demanded Rahul Gandhi’s apology over Kharge’s remarks. “Rahul Gandhi must apologise to the nation for this unacceptable insult.”
